Spring Clean-up Day--Saturday, May 16th, 10am to 2pm. Come tiptoe through the tulips.

Actually better tiptoe carefully around them, after all the work that went into planting them. But didn't they turn out nicely?

Our main purpose in cleaning up the run is to make sure the surface remains suitable for canine recreation, but we also have a responsibility to the community at large, to make this remote and sometimes slightly foreboding section of our community a bit more inviting. The Rocky Run, I have often noted, has its share of fans who don't even seem to have dogs of their own. It just makes the neighborhood a friendlier place, and that's something we can all be proud of. Or rather, it's something we can be proud of if we actually show up to help make it happen, which is what Clean-up Day is all about. No way of knowing what the weather will be like, but it'd sure be nice to see another turn-out like the one we had last spring. I hear The Parks Department is still speaking in awed reverent tones of the vast horde of volunteers who turned up for that one.

So mark the date on your calendar, set aside some clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and bring the pooches if you like--just don't expect them to help. Though I'm sure they wouldn't mind digging up the garden. Don't even think about it, Max.
